Work Weekend at Quarry Ridge Brings Major Trail Upgrades

Saturday, October 18 brought out a small but effective crew of volunteers at Quarry Ridge. Thanks to equipment made possible by the City of Fitchburg, the crew tackled a long list of major improvements across several trails — and the results are already riding great.
Trail steward Mike Schrader, Matt Yerke, Tim Russel, and Jeff Bartels led the charge, joined by six volunteers and a small skid steer operated by Cameron Lundin. Over the course of the weekend, they reworked berms on Little Sister, rebuilt the last three features on B-Line, and added dirt to the trick jump landing. They also began reshaping parts of Middle B-Line and dug out new drainage areas to keep water moving off the trail.
After a round of overnight rain Friday, Saturday’s volunteers packed and finished all the fresh dirt, fine-tuned the new berms, and added rock armoring to a tricky upper section of B-Line. By the end of the day, Little Sister and B-Line were riding better than ever — faster flow, smoother transitions, and more sustainable drainage.
On Sunday, the work continued. Mike added a return trail for the trick jump, rebuilt the last landing on Big Sister, resurfaced the punchy climb on Dizzy, and rebuilt four water bars on Lakeview — plus re-dug drainage along 50 feet of trail.
This kind of effort shows what’s possible when our community steps up. Every donation, every hour volunteered, and every shovel in the dirt keeps Quarry Ridge progressing as one of the region’s top spots to ride.
