Clinic Instructor Bios
Walter Stern
CORP Clinic 102: MTB Foundations II
A lifelong biker, Walter has been a mountain bike coach for West High School since 2021. When he is not riding local roads and trails, he works as an associate professor of educational policy studies and history at UW–Madison.
Drew Ross
Learn to Jump
Drew started riding mountain bikes in the days of purple anodized bar ends and steel frames. He’s coached for the Madison West mountain bike team for the last 7 years and taught jump clinics with CORP for the last three. These days, he spends far too much time in front of a computer but still loves to get out and be a kid on the bike whenever he can.
Jennifer LaMontagne
CORP Clinic 101: MTB Foundations I
Jennifer is a level three NICA coach for Madison West and has been riding dirt for seven years. She enjoys coaching the foundations for middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults alike.
Matthew Yerke
Learn to Jump
Matthew is a long time rider (since the 90s). He loves a lot about the sport, but the top of the list may be skills progression. There is nothing quite like unlocking a new skill. He has been leading the learn to jump clinics with CORP since they began and his ability to teach the clinic has grown with each session and he looks forward to it every time.
Amber Markey
CORP Clinic 201: Cornering Master Class
Isaac Neff
Learn to Love Roots and Rocks
Caitlin Neuman
First time Jumps and Drops (women only)
Advanced Technical Riding
Caitlin picked up cycling at UW-Madison in college. She raced quite a range of courses from local/UCI cyclocross and XC racing to, more recently, marathon XC like Little Sugar and Leadville. Her greatest love is technical riding. Working her way through a tricky rock garden or a challenging feature is where she will most often be found, and she will never say no to a bike park!
Bob Hubanks
Technical Climbs and Descents
Roots, Rocks - Riding Technical Terrain
In 1991, Bob bought a used Cannondale mountain bike because it was becoming popular. A friend took him to Quarry Park in Madison shortly after and he's loved Quarry Park (and mountain biking) ever since. His son started riding mountain bikes in elementary school about 12 years ago. They raced WORS together and took many bike-related road trips as a family, and his wife Melissa and him signed up to coach for Madison West NICA . Bob's son in college now, but he still coaches NICA, and helps coach the Hollander-Neff Jr Development Team. Bob served on the CORP board from 2023-2026 and has been teaching CORP clinics since 2023.

Her favorite mountain bike skill is cornering and she is always looking to make them faster and smoother. She is currently a CORP Board member and Events Committee Co-Chair.

FAQs
-
CORP Trails clinics are instructional sessions on specific topics led by experienced CORP Trails members, including NICA coaches, CX athletes, and bike mechanics. They are designed for CORP Trails members (and non-members) of all skill levels who want to improve their mountain biking abilities. The clinics aim to build skills, foster understanding of trail maintenance, build community, and promote CORP Trails within the local mountain biking scene.
-
Yes, your CORP Trails membership does make a difference in the cost. The donation to attend a clinic for CORP Trails members is a nominal $100, while non-members pay $150 per clinic. All donations to attend clinics go to CORP Trails funds to help to build and maintain area mountain bike trails!
-
The clinics cover a range of skills depending on the level. We suggest newer riders (or anyone needing a refresh) start with the Foundations I and Foundations II clinics and progress from there. We often offer specific women’s clinics for these skills as well.
Example clinics include:
MTB Foundations I (101): Focuses on fundamentals like "eyes up," one finger on each brake, level pedals, neutral and ready position, bike-body separation, and braking fundamentals.
MTB Foundations II (102): Builds on the first level with front/rear wheel lifts, ratcheting, shifting under load, tight cornering/switchbacks, and an introduction to cornering and rocky terrain.
Cornering Master Class (201): Covers cornering fundamentals, introduction, progression, flat corners, and banked/berm corners.
Learn to Jump (301): Teaches the basics of safely and controlled jumping, starting with bunny hops and progressing to table tops and small gap jumps.
-
At a minimum, you will need a helmet, close-toed footwear, and an operable, maintained basic mountain bike. It's also recommended to bring your own nutrition and hydration, as limited snacks and water will be available.
-
The instructors are advanced CORP Trails members who are also excellent teachers. This includes individuals with qualifications such as NICA coaches and experienced CX athletes and coaches. They are trained in both technical biking skills and coaching techniques, with an emphasis on safety and fun. Example instructors include Eric Vincent, Jennifer LaMontagne, Amber Markey, Jeremy Noffke, Beth Ross, Emily Green, Drew Ross, Matt Yerke, Bob Hubanks, Isaac Neff, Elise Uphoff, Caitlin Neuman, and Freddy Astrada.
