New Trail Additions Open at Dodgeville
CORP Trails has completed a new trail addition and connector project within the Dodgeville Cluster, adding roughly a mile of additional trail and improving durability throughout the system. The work was completed by Rock Solid Trail Contracting in late May and supported through CORP Trails funding.
The project focused on two main areas. The first replaces a pair of worn grass crossings along Boulder Run with purpose-built singletrack traversing the hillside. Riders will now find rock features integrated directly into the trail, along with an optional B-line for those looking for a smoother route.
The second addition creates a new loop connecting to what was previously a private trail and is now open to the public. The trail begins with a punchy technical climb featuring, old-school roots and rocks before splitting between an armored shortcut and a longer series of flat corners. From there, the trail winds through beautiful maple woods on a gradual climbing traverse before linking into the newly accessible trail section. Riders are then rewarded with a flowing descent featuring berms and trail features on the way back down.
In addition to the new riding experience, the project also included a heavily armored trail section designed to address flooding issues that previously damaged the tread and created ongoing maintenance challenges.
This project is an example of CORP Trails focus to improve riding opportunities across our region. Thank you to our Dodgeville trail stewards: Phil Pielage, Paul Manley, Brock Gempler, Thistle Hill property owners and supporters and members who help make projects like this possible through donations and membership dues.
While most of the spring trail work days have wrapped up, the work never ends, and our trail stewards can always use more help, be it moving dirt or weed trimming, making donations to purchase new tools, or becoming a member. With your support, our community will continue to thrive.
