If you’d like to learn skills and be certified to use a chainsaw on some public properties like state and county parks, please sign up for this Chainsaw Safety course at Blue Mound State Park this Saturday. The fee for the course is $150 for CORP members, and CORP will cover $100 of that cost.
This SAWW Level 1 training class is hosted by Adaptive Restoration LLC and Blue Mound State Park, and taught by certified SAWW (Safety and Woods Worker) trainer Luke Saunders. This course is part of the four-level SAWW series designed to increase safety and efficiency of chainsaw use. These classes meet FISTA standards, and the trainer will address situations related to clearing trees across trails. (This training is required if you wish to use a chainsaw to help maintain the trails we enjoy on DNR or Dane County land.) Participants must be 18 years of age or older by the class date in order to register. Mike Healy, one of our wonderful coaches for Mount Horeb MTB, has worked personally with the trainer for many years, and the training is worthwhile both for experienced and new chainsaw operators.
