Night Riding Tips and Tricks

Fall is out in full force and the days are getting shorter, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop riding. Night riding is one of the best ways to make your favorite trails feel new again, refine your riding skills, and stay active year-round.

Without peripheral distractions, each trail feature feels fresh, and finding your flow is easier than ever. Seeing a train of lights in the woods is sure to bring a smile to you and your riding buddies’ faces. Riding through fall is a great way to prepare for fatbike season and acclimate to the falling temperatures so that, when spring returns, your fitness won’t have missed a beat.

Experienced riders will swear by a helmet-mounted light as well as handlebar lights, ensuring that your field of vision remains unimpeded around corners at night. Make sure to charge your lights before each ride, pack extra layers, and let others know about your riding plans. You may not ride your favorite trails as fast as during the day, but night riding is better than no riding!

As light and battery technology continues to improve, it’s easier than ever to find lights that will last the length of your ride without compromising your experience on the trail. CORP members even receive discounts on lights and other parts and accessories from a number of local bike shops.
