Flying at the Fall Jam
Around 50 riders of all ages from Madison to Milwaukee, the Fox Valley, Baraboo, Green Lake, and even Rockford, IL, a number of which for their first time, made the trek to Quarry Park to enjoy the region’s best dirt jumps, logging air time from 10AM until dark. Hungry riders feasted on wings, hot dogs, and various grilled foods thanks to Destination Bicycle co-owner and CORP Trails supporter Brett Stepanik’s extra large grill and Matt’s culinary expertise. Executive Director Alice Yuroff overcame logistical setbacks and rallied back to Madison after a NICA race to set up the CORP tent and provide attendees with refreshments, ensuring that no one went thirsty.
Trail Steward Matt Hamann and volunteer extraordinaire Roland Flasch put in over 40 hours of work in the week leading up the the jam, fixing erosion from torrential, late-September rains, clearing the trails of overgrowth, and buffing trail features out. Special thanks to CORP Trails Board member Sarah and volunteer Aimee for sweeping the jump lines of leaves and black walnuts the morning of the jam and to volunteers Dustin and Brian for helping fine tune the lips and landings on the Playground jump line.
Each year the Quarry Park’s trails continue to improve and see usage from riders from all over the Midwest. Events like these bring together the community, progress riders’ skillsets, and foster a sense of volunteerism and pride for all the hard work that goes into making these 17 acres of woods into a regional riding destination. Quarry Park is built on a decades long legacy of volunteers, coordinators, and donors creating a unique park unlike any other in Madison. Its continued improvements rely solely on the help of others.
